DIE,
THREAD CUTTING
(RECTANGULAR,
TWO PIECE PIPE DIES)
The
General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial
Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification GGG- T 581.
This
commercial item description covers adjustable, rectangular,
two piece dies for use in diestocks covered by Commercial Item Description
A-A-363.
Salient
characteristics:
Design. The dies shall consist of two
sections having two thread-cutting lands with ample chip clearance between
lands. Each section shall have a line mark on its top surface so that when
aligned with a similar line on the diestock, the die shall cut threads top gage
with American –Standard NPT ring gages. Shall be compatible
with Reed Manufacturing Company 2A, 2AR, 3A, or 3AR diestocks, as applicable.
Material. Carbon or alloy tool steel
Hardness. Rockwell C 56 to 63 along the full
length of the cutting edges.
Sizes. Dies shall be furnished in the
following sizes:

Die
marking.
All dies shall be marked in addition to the mating marks required above with
manufacturer’s name or identifying trademark, the diameter and thread series.
Marking shall be legible and permanent.
Workmanship. All dies shall be free from
imperfections which may affect their appearance, serviceability, or durability.
Certification. The contractor
shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of
this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the
producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance
practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial
marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such
conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided
for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered
materials. The manufacturer
shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation,
packaging, packing and marking. The preservation, packaging and packing shall
be in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure
acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and
damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container
shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and
Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract
or order.
