Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification GGG-D-296.

This commercial item description covers adjustable, rectangular, two-piece dies with collets.

Salient characteristics:

Collet. The collet shall consist of a cap and guide made of steel.

Cap. The cap shall be a cylindrical shaped item with a rectangular opening on one end, beveled to seat the dies, and an internal thread on the other end to accommodate the guide.

Guide. The guide shall be extremely threaded to fit the cap and have an internal opening for guiding the die onto the pipe.

Dies. The die halves shall fit into the beveled recesses in the cap and be adjustable by setscrews protruding through the cap sides at the ends of the rectangular opening. The material of the dies shall be either carbon or high speed steel, hardened to Rockwell C57-63 or C61-65 respectively. The cutting lands of the threads shall show no evidence of partial or total decarbonization.

Sizes. The die and collets shall be furnished in right-hand threads in the following thread and collet diameter as shown below for the National Stock Number (NSN) specified.
