This commercial item description covers hexagon-shape rethreading dies for dressing over bruised or rusty threads.
Salient characteristics:
Shape. Hexagonal.
Material. Carbon or high speed steel.
Head treatment. Carbon steel, rockwell C 57-63; high-speed steel, Rockwell C 61-65. The cutting lands of the threads shall show no evidence of partial or total decarbonization.
Threads. National or Unified National right-hand thread form.
Sizes. Dies shall be furnished in the following sizes and dimensions as specified by National Stock Number (NSN).

Marking. The dies shall be marked in a legible and permanent manner with the manufacturer’s name or trademark, the threaded size, and “HS”, “HSS”, or “High Speed” to indicate high speed steel, if applicable.
Workmanship. All dies shall be free from imperfections which may affect their appearance, serviceability, or durability.
